Trends in Nursing Synopsis Paper
Purpose:
The profession of nursing today is complex and dynamic. The purpose of this assignment is to explore a contemporary issue affecting nursing and nursing practice.

5.1 Uses clear, concise, and effective written, electronic, and verbal communication
Learning Outcomes:
1. Explore a contemporary issue or trend in society and/or healthcare and its impact on nursing education and/or practice.
2. Use informatics and technology to research evidence-based practice (EBP) related to the chosen evolving issue and/or trends as a component of ongoing learning and preparation for practice.
3. Create a personal philosophy and plan for ongoing personal development and practice that integrates knowledge of current issues and/or trends.
4. Demonstrate scholarly writing skills.
Guidelines:
· Identify one specific contemporary issue or healthcare trend that you are interested in learning more about. You may choose from one of the below subjects:
o Compassion fatigue or burnout of healthcare professionals.
· Present your topic of interest to your course instructor for approval before you begin writing this paper. Contact them by email.
· Once the issue or trend is identified, find important/significant facts about it, substantiated by scholarly articles or other legitimate resources.
· Explain how you plan to stay up to date about current issues and/or trends in healthcare.
· Include at least two scholarly resources within the past five years to support the issue and/or trend.
Written presentation:
v Introduction
Ø Introduce the contemporary issue and/or trend in nursing and briefly describe why you are interested in this topic and what your paper will be about.
v Synopsis
Ø A synopsis is a brief summary or general survey of the selected topic of interest.
Ø Research: Describe research done on this topic. What is the evidence telling us? Why is this a “new issue” or “trend”? If this has been an issue for 20 years, why haven’t we made any progress? Or why nmk,kk,is this a new issue and/or trend?
Ø Application to Nursing: Describe how you think the new knowledge will, or should, affect nursing.
v Conclusion
Ø Summarize what you have written in the synopsis.
Ø A conclusion paragraph must be sure to restate the topic of the paper. Summarize supporting evidence and have a powerful take-away.
Ø Conclusions should never contain new information.
v Personal Philosophy
Ø Explain how you plan to stay knowledgeable about current issues and/or trends in healthcare. This is the only section in which it is appropriate to use first person.
APA style
· Paper should be 2-3 pages in length, not including the title page or reference page. Complete written assignment in APA 7th ed. format, including title page and reference page. APA format is contained in Owl Perdue website. Paper to include information within each Heading; Introduction, Synopsis, Conclusion, Personal Philosophy. Be sure these headings are indicated within your paper using APA format.
· Make sure you paraphrase the research you have found. Use proper citations in APA format. Papers will be submitted through Blackboard and checked for plagiarism via SafeAssign.
