Answer the followibg questions for all the micbro;
- Proper nomenclature and full taxonomic classification (viruses will be wonky)
- One photo of your microbe under a microscope, label what kind of microscopy
- Describe your microbe. Is it microbe a prokaryote or eukaryote or virus? What is its morphology – any appendages? What kind of cell wall? If virus – what kind of genetic material? Anything unusual? Photo optional.
- Talk about its metabolism. What does it “eat”? What kind of -troph is it?
- Can it be grown in a laboratory setting? If so, how? Answer questions such as what kind of culture medium? What temperature does it grow best at?
- How does your microbe reproduce (sexual, asexual, binary fission, conjugation, etc.)?
- What methods are used control its growth? Mention physical, chemical and antimicrobial (just one of each is fine).
- What is the occurrence and prevalence of the disease? How long are you sick for? Is it acute, latent, chronic, etc.? Incubation period? Are there any predisposing factors to getting the disease? Is there a reservoir? Is it a nosocomial infection, an emerging disease? Graph if you have it.
- Mechanisms of invasion: What are some of its virulence/pathogenicity factors (name 3, if you can)? What is its portal of entry? Any information on infectious dose (may not be possible to find)? How does this microbe evade the host? Does it form or associate with biofilms?
- How is it diagnosed? What tests are used? What system does it affect, using vocabulary from the lectures)? What is the prognosis?
- Anything interesting to add?
