That you have understood the thesis, the evidence presented in support of the thesis in this research paper. That you have considered how the ideas expressed in this source connect with the thesis you are exploring for your research paper.

In this part of the research essay assignment, you are asked to make and save notations on your secondary source article that indicate two things:

  1. That you have understood the thesis, the evidence presented in support of the thesis in this research paper.
  2. That you have considered  how the ideas expressed in this source  connect with the thesis you are exploring for your research paper.

This first step ensures that you have read and thought about the secondary source so you can ensure that your essay is not only sprinkled with words from this source, but that you will have engaged with the ideas expressed in the article.

The second step ensures that you are noting for yourself the passages that are most likely to be helpful for the essay you are going to write.  Please ensure that you highlight at least three passages because you need to include at least three direct quotations in your paper. You may, of course highlight more than three.

Please ensure that you submit your essay outline. You will need your outline for our essay writing workshop day .   Please also ensure that you have either a paper copy (always a good idea) or an e-copy of your outline so you can work with it in class.

Remember that a strong essay outline will include:

  1. A statement of your THESIS (the answer to the question posed)
  2. A PREVIEW (list) of the arguments you will use to support your thesis and the KEY WORDS you will use to represent these arguments in your topic sentences
  3. A description of the EVIDENCE you will cite from both the primary and secondary texts.  Make sure that you use quotation marks for direct quotations and provide a citation for BOTH direct quotations and summaries of your source materials. The most efficient way to list your evidence is to simply cut and paste the transcribed text into your outline.  When it comes time to actually write the essay, you will already have your evidence available in electronic text.

this is the refrence of my topic..
