Philosophy of
Technology Essay Prompt
Select one of your previous discussion responses to expand into a
4–5-page essay (1000-1250 words). Your essay should thoughtfully explore your
chosen topic, demonstrating a well-rounded analysis that includes the following
elements:
1. Introduction and Thesis Statement
Begin with an introduction that clearly presents your chosen topic and a
concise thesis statement. Your thesis should provide a compelling argument or
stance that you will develop throughout the essay.
2. Supporting Evidence and Scholarly Engagement
Identify 2-3 scholarly, peer-reviewed sources that support your thesis. For
each source, provide a thorough summary that conveys the author’s key
arguments. Then, connect these ideas to your thesis by explaining how each
source strengthens your position, either through direct support, conceptual
alignment, or by offering relevant insights.
3. Anticipating and Addressing an Objection
Consider a potential objection to one or more of the reasons or arguments
supporting your thesis. Present this objection clearly and fairly. You may
support this objection with a scholarly, peer-reviewed source. Demonstrate how
engaging with opposing views enhances the rigor of your argument.
4. Response to the Objection
Respond to the objection by explaining how your thesis and supporting arguments
can effectively address or counter it. This section should reinforce your
thesis by clarifying why it remains persuasive, even in the face of critique.
5. Conclusion
Conclude by restating your thesis and summarizing how your analysis and
counter-argument strengthen your position. Aim to leave the reader with a clear
understanding of the significance of your argument and its broader
implications.
