Write an essay on the following topic: “The Effects of Geology on Human Lives and Development: How Does Geology Affects Society Economically, Culturally, or Medically”
Use the rubrics posted in this week’s folder to help you organize your essay. You will be graded using the rubrics.
Your essay should meet the following format guidelines:
- 1-2 pages in length
- regular font (Times, Calibri, Cambria, Arial – nothing weird! 12pt)
- regular 1-inch margins
- use figures and tables as appropriate – be sure to properly label them with captions and reference their source
- provide a list of references. Detailed citations are not necessary just don’t plagiarize anyone’s work. Tell us where the ideas came from!
- use page numbers
- use regular spacing (WORD auto sets up regular spacing or use 1.5 or double spaced). Avoid single spaced. It’s very hard to read
Your essay should be organized in the regular way, with the following sections:
- Descriptive Title
- Introductory paragraph
- Body paragraphs (explore the topic)
- Concluding paragraph
- List of References
Some tips for scientific writing:
- Try short paragraphs or 3-4 sentences. It helps keep you on topic and focused.
- Avoid pronouns and “I believe”, “In my opinion”, “It seems to me” phrases. Make evidence based statements without inserting yourself into the writing
