This is my AP African American personal reasearch project.
Topic Description: My project explores the changes in American culture brought about by the digital era specifically focusing on how digital platforms have played a role in reshaping cultural expressions and promoting social movements. This topic is important because it sheds light on the effects of technology and culture showcasing how this has enabled the publicization and evolution of African American cultural traditions, especially in music and social activism.
The growth of social media and technology has revolutionized how cultural representations and voices are spread and understood on an international scale. Social media platforms such as TikTok, Twitter, and Instagram have evolved into spaces where cultural narratives and identities are molded and shared. The music industry has also been significantly influenced by the digital landscape, as deeply rooted genres such as hip-hop and R&B have achieved significant standing on international music charts as a result of the accessibility given by digital platforms.
In addition, these digital platforms have contributed to the coordination and mobilization of social movements, including Black Lives Matter, by allowing collective action and generating widespread awareness. The digital age helps the sharing of ideas but also presents obstacles, such as the digital divide. Variations in technology access among communities have an impact on economic and educational opportunities.
This project is significant as it highlights the role of technology, in African American society; serving as a gateway for cultural expression and societal transformation while also revealing existing issues. It is imperative to recognize this shift to understand the layers of identity and social equity in the modern world.
