Assignment #3

Instructions: Students are required to watch two videos (links provided below) related to the Executive Branch and the events of the administration of George W. Bush after September 11 2001
After watching the videos, students are required to write a 3-5 page (double-spaced in Times New Roman size 12 font only) analysis that examines the following questions:
  1. Can it be argued that the administration of former President George W. Bush, and specifically former Vice-President Dick Cheney, abused the constitutional powers of the Executive Branch and the laws of the United States to commit war crimes, torture, and other atrocities after the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq?
  2. Does either U.S. or international law legally prohibit the use of torture? (You will need to do some external research to answer this question)
  3. Is it every morally or ethically justifiable for any government to torture? If so, under what circumstances?
  4. How do the events of the post 9/11 period demonstrate the moral failings of the United States to live up to the ideals it suggests it represents?
Cite all sources used other than the two videos provided in MLA format.
