Directions:
As part of the course Infant/Toddler Learning and Care
Environments, students will write a 750 word paper summarizing research on the
impact of a quality environment on infant and toddler’s social-emotional
development and wellbeing. Social-emotional development and wellbeing focuses
on how very young children see themselves, others and the world around them. In
this paper you will explore how you can communicate the following messages
through the environment:
1.
You belong here
2.
This is a good place to be
3.
This is a place you can trust
4.
You can do many things on your own and be
independent
5.
You can get away and be by yourself when you
need to
6.
This is a place you can explore and try out your
ideas
In your paper you will explore how these messages help
children learn that they are capable and competent, that the world is a safe
place and that the adults in their lives can be trusted to care for them and
meet their needs.
In your paper you must reference 3 professional,
research-based sources. Possible sources include Zero to Three, Office of Head
Start Early Learning and Knowledge Center, NAEYC, Child Care Aware of America
and WestEd.
