Write a research
paper on a topic “The Impact of Social Media Algorithms on the
Formation of Echo Chambers and Their Social Implications such as their Effect
on User Perspectives and Interactions“. The final research paper
must show evidence of using the research writing techniques that have been
learned in this course, which are:
“• State of knowledge
• Secured generalization
• Citation and reporting: WHO + HOW (WHY) + WHAT
• Direct speech (quotations); indirect speech (paraphrase)
• Reporting expressions (active and passive) and parenthetical
citations
• Double reporting
• Apposition
• Emphasis
• Cleft sentences
• The anticipatory-it and the end-weight principle
• Knowledge deficit
• Self-reference and the discursive I/we
• Modal expressions
• Forecast
• Gist and levels of generality: high-, mid-, low-levels of
abstraction/detail
• Qualifying expressions
• The knowledge-making I/we
• Modal expressions (again)
• Limiting expressions”.
Please make sure you use all the above-mentioned writing techniques when
writing this paper. I will also attached a file called “WRDS150” including the
contents of all the writing techniques. Please read that so you know how to
properly use them for this paper.
In addition, your research paper should do all of the following (this is
not a
comprehensive list):
· Include an informative title
· Outline an informed, thorough state of knowledge
· Articulate a knowledge deficit leading to a thesis
argument that is developed
· throughout the paper
· Begin each paragraph with a main claim
· Orchestrate a scholarly conversation using techniques
we’ve learned in this course
· Employ appropriate and selective summary, including
· high-level abstractions and
· lower-level details
· Cite other academic research, using an appropriate
mixture of
· paraphrase and
· quotations
· Use a variety of reporting expressions that usefully
· introduce another person’s work and, when appropriate,
· signal your position in relation to it
· Use apposition/definition
· Employ scholarly messages, including
· self-referential language (including either the
discursive I/this paper)
· forecasting
· emphasis
· Express provisionality and uncertainty where
appropriate, using
· modal expressions
· limiting expressions
Make sure all the
following criteria are exceptionally met:
- Use of existing scholarship
throughout paper - Clear escription of state of
knowledge - High quality of knowledge
deficit, thesis argument, and viability of project - High quality of
structure/organization - High quality of
discussion/analysis - High quality of writing (modeling
features and practices of the research writing genre).
Make sure you cite the paper using APA style, I will provide the
guideline for APA citation, please follow the provided guideline.
I also found 5 articles for this paper as sources and I will attach them
all here, please read and use them for this research paper. You are encouraged
to find more relevant articles to use as sources for this research paper. Note that for article 3 only, only the chapter named “Yes, Echo-Chambers Mislead You Too:
A Game-Based Educational Experience
to Reveal the Impact of Social Media
Personalization Algorithms” should be used in the paper.
Please write the paper based on the following research proposal. The paper has to be relevant to the following proposal:
“The rise of social media has enhanced interactions among
people through online platforms, with users gravitating toward specific content
that aligns with their preferences. Algorithms have become essential tools for
software developers to prioritize the type of content users consume repeatedly.
Scholars such as Singh et al. (2020) and Poleac and Niculina (2024) have
examined the role of algorithms in curating content shared through social media
platforms. Current knowledge indicates that social media algorithms curate
online content based on users’ preferences. However, existing studies lack a
comprehensive understanding of how social media algorithms generate and
perpetuate echo chambers, leading to a narrowing of perspectives and reduced
exposure to diverse viewpoints.
Therefore, this paper examines how social media algorithms
contribute to the creation of echo chambers by triggering users’ dopamine to
continue glued to their favorite platforms, encouraging prolonged engagement
with their preferred platforms, and ultimately reinforcing selective exposure.
The materials to be used in this paper include Singh et al.’s (2020) and Poleac
and Niculina’s (2024) works, which provide essential insights to support the
main argument of this research.
The paper will begin with an overview of social media
algorithms and their growing influence. A literature review will follow,
analyzing key concepts from Singh et al. (2020) and Poleac and Niculina (2024)
to identify the research gap. Next, the paper will explore social issues
associated with social media algorithms, focusing on how echo chambers can lead
to conflicts in beliefs, political viewpoints, and perspectives among
individuals. The outline will include materials that support the main arguments
and illustrate the impact of echo chambers on users’ beliefs, perspectives, and
relationships.
In conclusion, this work aims to deepen understanding of the
social and moral implications of echo chambers and how their creation can
provoke controversies and conflicts between individuals.”
