Around the world, local people have engaged in non-violent actions and peace movements to stop violence, fight oppression and discrimination, to save lives or to protect the environment, among other causes. Please comment on the following questions:

•What are some of the tactics that strategic non-violent campaigns employ to challenge the status quo and to achieve positive social change? Please mention some examples to illustrate your points. 

•According to your criteria, when is non-violent action effective? Under which circumstances may non-violent actions not be an effective way to achieve change? What would stop you from participating in non-violent actions?
