The intersection of Nativism, Racial tropes, and colorism and their interactions with Institutional and Structural Racism

In Units 1-5 we’ve discussed how and why we define various terms that affect the way race is formed and received. In particular, we focused on the distinctions between Institutional, Structural, and Personal Racisms. For this assignment you submit a 1500 word paper that explores, analyzes, and discusses the intersection of nativism, racial tropes, and colorism and their interactions with Institutional and Structural Racism.

Your paper must address the following:
Define and explain the differences, and similarities, between Institutional and Structural racism.
Provide a definition, in your own words, of nativism, racial tropes, and colorism.
What historical developments affected the way these ideas affect marginalized communities?
How do these three terms intersect with issues of privilege and power?
How does media and popular culture contribute to the reinforcement of these terms?
While this may feel a bit abstract, the goal is to have you consider the real world implications of these ideas. Ensure that your definitions are solid so that you can return to them when engaging in your analysis.
