All students should choose one film club to join. Watch the relevant works of literature. Then write a personal essay that connects the myths and the works together with ideas explored n this class. Your post should do the following things for full credit:
1. Quote (and give context to) brief excerpts from the works that are the subject of your club.
2. Quote (and give context to) one or more ancient texts (such as the Iliad, Odyssey, Aeneid, an ancient Greek tragedy, etc.)
3. Explain how you think knowledge of the ancient story or work of literature enhances your appreciation of the modern one, and vice versa.
4. Give an overview of the ideas discussed in your group and incorporate your own individual ideas about the works (be sure to indicate your interpretations by saying things like “I think…” or “my own view is that…” or “I would argue that…”
5. Quote something from the textbook (for example, a concept or a sentence from a chapter) to relate your work to the ideas we are studying in this class.]
The textbook used for the class is Classical Mythology in Context by Oxford University Press
The book which this is based off is Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston
