Overview:
Pelican Pharmacy, is a chain of pharmacies operating throughout the country. The file contains data collected for a sample of 100 in-store medication transactions at Pelican Pharmacy during one day. The following fields are in the file:
- Customer: A unique id identifying each individual customer
- Type of Customer: Smokers or Non-smokers
- Items: Number of medications purchased in the transaction
- Co-Pays: Total dollars charged
- Insurance Company: Type of health insurance
- Gender
- Marital Status
- Age.
Data Analysis:
First: Code the excel data and put it into SPSS. Using variable view fill out the fields for Name, Type, Decimals, Label, Value, and Measure. Watch the video for help in setting this up as well as using your text.
Use the methods of descriptive statistics presented this week to do an in-depth analysis of the data with an analytical write-up on all of your findings.
- Create a population table with N’s and %’s and an analytical write-up to explain who your customers are in your data set.
For your analysis –
- Descriptive statistics on total and mean co-pays by classifications of customers.
- One customer group must be Type of Customer and you can choose the other two demographic groups from the list below. Present these in table format with an analytical write-up.
- The two groups may include a Smoker/non-smoker, gender, marital status, or age.
Each demographic group will have its own table and analytical write up so you will have a total of three tables for this portion of the assignment. You will have the analytical narrative/table, analytical narrative/table, etc.
For extra credit: (10 pts) you can explore other aspects of the data to see if there is anything you can uncover to help better understand the customer base. To do this create crosstabs, provide a table, and discuss the differences you observed.
