Directions: You will have 10 minutes to present a persuasive speech to your classmates on a topic of your choosing. This topic must be directly related to the topic of the course this semester. The speech must employ academic research. A bibliography including 5-7 sources must be included. The presentation should also make use of appropriate visual aids. You can use PowerPoint, KeyNote, or any other program you like.
Content: The speech must include the following parts:
- Introduction – Introduce the topic to the audience. Define and explain the topic.
- Thesis – State your argument about that topic.
- Body – Explain how/why your perspective on the topic is correct; present possible solutions to the problem of the topic. The information presented must be research-based and cited either verbally or on your slides.
- Conclusion – The speech should conclude with a summary that reminds the audience of the topic and solution. That summary should also relate the problem back to general education and the outcome chosen.
Delivery: The following elements will be factored into your speech delivery grade:
- Volume
- Pronunciation
- Rate of Speech
- Use of Visual Aids
