Step 1. This essay is an expansion of your outline from week four.
Summarize your article. (this is the introduction)
Begin the summary by stating the author’s name, credentials, if available, and the article’s title. Summarize the article and identify the author’s point of view.
Describe the author’s writing strategy: see the attached strategies. Rhetorical Modes Handout (1).docx. Download Rhetorical Modes Handout (1).docx.
The summary must include only the main points of the article, no personal opinions.
This summary should be written from a 3rdperson point of view.
Step 2. Include your thesis statement. State the author’s position (in the third person). State why someone would agree with the argument and why they would disagree. The thesis is usually the last sentence of the introduction, and it should contain three main ideas.

Step 3. Body Paragraphs
You will find two or more additional sources related to the topic that provide an additional perspective that can support your position and another article with an opposing view.
Each topic sentence should be an extension of the ideas in the thesis. Each idea needs to be discussed in the same order as they are presented in the thesis statement.
Include direct quotes and paraphrases from the resources you have found. Include specific evidence that helps readers understand the points you are making.
Step 4. Conclusion
The conclusion should restate the thesis statement, summarize the main points of the essay, and end with a closing point or a call for action.
