You will use your critical thinking to propose an improvement to part of the education system. In short, you will create a well developed argument (Toulmin) with strong individual paragraphs (AXES Guidelines) and appeal to your specific audience (RCES) to persuade your audience to make a specific change (call to action).
1. Define your purpose of education.
2. Based on your “purpose of education,” you will select your own education issue.
3. Once you identify an issue that needs improvement, you will identify the change you seek.
You can state the change and your reasons in the thesis.
4. You can determine who can make your thesis happen. This person, or group, will be your audience.
5. You will research and write the paper to appeal to your specific audience.
Include a specific call to action for your specific audience.
6. Revise your essay to further develop your RCES:
REASON – Making a logical argument, which you do through practicing the Toulmin and AXES methods.
CHARACTER – Earning the audience’s trust and respect, which you earn by using credible sources well.
EMOTION – Making the reader care, beyond a logical understanding.
STYLE – Using language well, impact often comes not just from what you say, but HOW you say what you say.
