The two weakest links of farm records in context of sustainable farming: social and environmental indicators

Dear Writer,

I am planning to give a project proposal on sustainability in agriculture in the agricultural economics department of a university in the UK. Since English is not my first language, I’m not able to express exactly what I mean by what I write or translate. And also, my ideas can be improved with a different perspective. Therefore, I thought it would be appropriate to ask for your support.

Our main topic is sustainability in agriculture, this topic is very popular. As you know, sustainability has three dimensions: economic, social and environmental. Almost all economic indicators can be calculated from the accounting records from farms, most of them can be obtained from the European Farm Accounting Data Network. In the meantime, the European Union is undertaking important projects to transform the farm accounting data network into a farm sustainability data network. Basically, what I want to do is to put forward the economic, social and environmental indicators that should be used to measure sustainability in agriculture. There are not many problems with economic indicators. Determining which indicators should be taken with which weights according to the type of farm (crop farms, livestock farms and mixed crop or livestock farms). Economic indicators and their weights can be considered as the first work package. See milfont2010.pdf

In the second work package, environmental indicators can be determined by using “environmental attitude scales”. Attitudes and behavior should be addressed separately in this work package. It is known that a lot of research has been done on environmental attitude scales in agriculture.

In the last work package, the third work package, the issue of which social indicators should be taken can be addressed. Here, a set of indicators could be developed by drawing on studies on the objectives of farm owners. See Wilcock1999.pdf

The methodology of this project should be based on drawing conclusions from previous research results. At the end of the project, three types of indicators can be targeted. But what is important here is the weighting of each of these groups and subgroups of indicators.

As a suggestion for the future, these indicators can be tested through farm level surveys.

In line with the above information, I would be very happy if you could write a project proposal form to fill the proposal_form.docx file. What is important here is the feasibility and widespread impact of the project.
