These include Grendel, Grendel’s mother in Beowulf, Satan in Paradise Lost and the creature in Frankenstein.

For this assignment, I’d like you to spend some time writing about the monsters we’ve read about for our first essay unit. These include Grendel, Grendel’s mother in Beowulf, Satan in Paradise Lost and the creature in Frankenstein. What do these monsters have in common with each-other and how are they different. The structure of the assignment is pretty basic; Three paragraphs total, one paragraph for each monster, with reference to its similarities and differences to the other two listed. Here’s how it might look,

  • Grendel and his mother: Describe these creatures and explain what you found most interesting or compelling about them as monsters. Also describe anything you didn’t like either about Beowulf or the monsters themselves.
  • Satan: Describe Satan and explain what you found most interesting or compelling about him as a monster. Also describe anything you didn’t like about either Paradise Lost or Satan himself.
  • The Creature: Describe the creature and explain what you found most interesting about him as a monster. Also describe anything you didn’t like about either Frankenstein or the creature himself.

Rquirements: 500 words, three paragraphs, MLA style, submitted as a Word document. Finally, I want to know what YOU think, not the general overview of the character. This needs to come from your thinking, be original and NOT from a chatbot type service. I’d much rather have a paper that doesn’t quite make sense, or that goes out on a limb or takes a risk than a paper that just perfectly describes the characters. That is not what I want; don’t write summaries.
