Key Differences between the Persuasive and Informative Speeches
- Turn in a typed full –sentence outline (1000-1300 Words)
- Choose a “problem/solution” type topic or one that has two clear arguable sides “for or against”
- Pick a topic you genuinely care about – be current, unique and creative and avoid ones that are overdone or outdated/resolved
- Pick a topic that relates to your audience in a meaningful way (college students, Florida residents etc)
- Your thesis MUST be an argument – take a strong stand or clear position
- Use the Motivated Sequence or Assertion Structure for the body of your speech (see templates below)
- Your speech must demonstrate ethos, pathos, and logos (see Chapter 16)
- Your preview must imply persuasion. Today, I will argue. Or Today, I will persuade you that …
- Your speech must end with a “Call to Action”
- Turn in a typed reference page in APA form (www.citationmachine.netLinks to an external site.) with at least 3 sources!
