Task: Write up Chapter 3 (Research Methodology), Chapter 4 (Results) and Chapter 5 (Discussion) sections for the thesis.
NOTE: I have uploaded Chapter 2: Literature Review (for you to refer, Chapter 2 only includes lit review articles).
Please review the INSTRUCTIONS below closely. I have also uploaded then.
For Chapter 3 – Research Methodology:
- Thematic analysis will be used via Nvivo software for data collection.
- Provide clear step-by-step instructions on the Thematic Analysis to Develop a Conceptual Model in Qualitative Research. https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/16094069231205789 (this website may help you, but please do not copy straight from it)
-
For data collection, you need to collect data from current net-zero carbon building (NZCB) practices in Australian construction companies by collecting data from industry reports. MAKE SURE YOU ONLY USE INDUSTRY REPORTS/PUBLIC GOVERNMENT REPORTS! NO lITERATURE REVIEW ARTICLES FOR DATA COLLECTION! LIT REVIEW SHOULD ONLY BE INCLUDED IN CHAPTER 2: LITERATURE REVIEW.
-
Make sure to you use thematic analysis via Nvivo for processing and organizing the data (because We’re not using interviews or surveys for data collection, ONLY Australian company’s industries reports )
-
Additionally, incorporate a PRISMA flow chart for the methodology to illustrate the data cleaning process. I have uploaded a template example for reference.
-
Ensure the methodology is clearly related to my thesis topic: ‘Global Best Practices vs. Australian Reality: A Thematic Analysis of Net-Zero Carbon Building in the Construction Industry with Recommendations for Improvement.’
Chapter 4: Results
– results should ONLY be from INDUSTRY REPORTS – MAINLY IN AUSTRALIA (because you’re comparing global NZCB practices with Australia)
– For the company results relate it to each dimension of the conceptual framework (Environmental, Economic, Technological, Social) – refer to Chapter 2 for the conceptual framework
CHAPTER 5: DISCUSSION
In the discussion section of the thesis, you’ll want to go beyond presenting findings to interpret their significance, relate them to existing literature (refer to chapter 2), and propose practical applications, especially considering the thesis topic on “Global Best Practices vs. Australian Reality: A Thematic Analysis of Net-Zero Carbon Building in the Construction Industry with Recommendations for Improvement.”
Here’s a suggested outline for a comprehensive discussion section:
1. Summary of Key Findings
Briefly restate the most important findings in the context of your research question or hypothesis. Highlight how these findings address the gaps or needs you identified in the introduction.
2. Comparison with Existing Literature
Compare your results with those in previous studies, particularly regarding global best practices vs. Australian practices in net-zero carbon buildings. Highlight any consistencies or discrepancies and discuss possible reasons for these differences, such as policy variations, industry adoption rates, or cultural factors.
3. Implications for Theory and Practice
Discuss what your findings mean for the construction industry and sustainability theory. For instance, if your results show that Australian practices lag behind other countries in certain aspects, explore the practical implications for construction companies, policymakers, and other stakeholders in Australia.
Identify which global best practices could realistically be implemented in Australia to bridge the gap and discuss why they may be beneficial or challenging to adopt.
4. Policy and Industry Recommendations
Based on your analysis, suggest specific recommendations for the Australian construction industry. These could include regulatory adjustments, incentive structures, or practices that have proven effective in other countries.
Discuss how these recommendations can support Australia in achieving net-zero goals and address barriers to implementation, such as costs, regulatory challenges, or industry readiness.
5. Limitations of the Study
Acknowledge any limitations that could impact the generalizability or accuracy of your findings. For instance, if your data is limited to certain types of projects or regions, note these constraints.
Mention methodological limitations as well, such as challenges associated with thematic analysis or data collection methods.
6. Suggestions for Future Research
Identify potential areas for further investigation. This could include deeper analyses of specific net-zero practices, longitudinal studies to assess implementation outcomes over time, or studies comparing urban vs. rural settings in Australia.
NOTE:
some other additional things you can mention in the discussion:
–
Issues companies have/effectiveness of the
practices -> maybe suggest more measure needs to be put in place.
–
Least studied area (least data collected from NZCB
practices in Australian companies)
suggests more studies needed
–
Most common practice used -> overly focused
–
What are the areas (practices) that have not
really been focused on in Australia.
Layout:
Please also follow the provided headings and structure from the uploaded doc. Divide chapters into clearly defined, numbered sections. For example, subsections should be numbered as 1.1, 1.1.1, 1.1.2, etc., and each subsection may be given a brief heading.
