Hello students, the first Forum Discussion was more of a practice run for you all. This is your first of several Forum Discussion assignments that are designed to build your critical thinking, research and literacy skills.
Question/Prompt:
- Discuss how your ethnic identity/ies changed over time, such as from childhood, high school to college? Consider this along the four dimensions of culture, institutions, interests and categorization, and put it in the context of significant others and the generalized other. Now that you have a basic understanding of Asian American history, discuss how this has shaped your sense of identity.
This assignment does not allow the use of AI, such as ChatGPT or any other similar methods. Any assignment submitted with the use of these methods will receive an automatic 0 with no option to revise or resubmit.
To earn a “Complete” for this assignment, include the following:
Requirements for Initial Post
- RESPOND TO EACH PART OF THE QUESTION/PROMPT. Initial post must be at least 300 words (meaning your own words, not cited wording from research).
- Include and write in BOLD at least 3 of the terms and/or concepts listed in any of the units discussed thus far (terms and concepts are listed on the instruction page of each unit). Do not simply write a definition of these terms and concepts, but demonstrate your understanding by including them in your overall discussion.
- Include and cite as examples of at least 2 of the assigned materials (at least 2 different authors and/or videos) and 2 pieces of evidence from additional research. Cite by writing last name of author and page number in parenthesis. Cited examples should not be more than 1-2 sentences.
- Include list of sources at bottom of initial post.
Replies to Classmates’ Initial Post
Post at least 2 responses to at least 2 different classmates’ initial post. Your responses should be at least 100 words. Replies need to initiate and further academic discussion. This may include:
- Critical feedback
- Perspectives or analysis not addressed that should be included
- Questions and further inquiry to fully understand or strengthen analysis
- Recommended sources, additional arguments and conclusions
- Personal experience
Initial post must be submitted by Thursday (11:59 pm). Replies to classmates must be posted by the following Sunday (11:59 pm).
