Objective: The objective of this assignment is to apply high-fidelity visual design principles to the mobile app concept developed from your idea of a mobile app, incorporating color, typography, visual emphasis, iconography, scale, and alignment.
Instructions:
Part 1: High-Fidelity Mockup Design
-
Based on your own idea of a mobile app create and design high-fidelity color mockups for the homepage and one additional screen of your mobile app using the principles learned in the instructional videos.
- Utilize design tools such as Figma, Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, PowerPoint, Google Slides, or any other creative means to create polished and slick mockups.
-
Apply visual design principles such as color theory, typography, visual emphasis, iconography, scale, and alignment to create visually appealing and user-friendly mockups.
-
Include the hi-fidelity mockup images in your submission.
Part 2: User Testing and Feedback: Present two alternative designs of your mockups to a group of friends, acquaintances, or peers (ideally, intended end users) for feedback. Explain that you’re seeking their input to help determine the best iteration of the design.
- Gather qualitative feedback from users through comments, word associations, or other methods discussed in the instructional videos. Ask users to provide insights into their preferences, emotions, and overall impressions of each design alternative.
Part 3: Iterative Design and Reflection: Reflect on the feedback received from user testing. Analyze user comments and reactions to each design alternative and identify common themes, strengths, weaknesses, and areas for improvement.
-
Explain how you chose the colors for your design based on user preferences, emotional responses, cultural considerations, and principles of color theory.
-
Choose the design iteration that best aligns with user preferences and provides the most effective visual communication of the app’s purpose and functionality.
-
Make iterative improvements to the selected design based on user feedback and your own analysis.
Part 4: Submission Compile your high-fidelity mockups, including the homepage and one additional screen, into a digital document or presentation.
- Write a brief reflection paper (300-500 words) summarizing your user testing experience, the feedback received, how it influenced your design decisions, the rationale behind your color choices, and the iterative improvements made.
