This essay is an autobiographical, point of view piece that will relay the narrative of your own racial identity and how it intersects with “what race looks like” as we spend our time studying, living in, and moving around the Tokyo metropolitan region.
Try to answer the question of how you came to build and develop a particular racial and ethnic identity. Start from there and write about how your racial/ethnic identity frames the way you perceive and think about racial and ethnic identity while experiencing life in Tokyo. This assignment should work hard to apply any concept or idea from the readings by Omi and Winant and/or Mary Waters. Feel free to write in the first-person voice and draw from any personal experiences.
There are multiple ways in which to compose the narrative. The paper could also speak to where you grew up and discuss the parameters of race and ethnicity in that place. As the paper analyzes the narrative, employ concepts such as racial formation theory, racial projects, or ethnic options to help carry out some analysis of the narrative you have written up. Do not be overly concerned about which concept or theoretical tool is utilized, be more focused on how it is being explained and discussed in the paper
Important Note: Share only what you feel comfortable sharing in a paper–no reason to divulge anything that is nobody else’s business.
key things to remember while writing :- I am a Nepali born and spent most of my time in japan, i was born in Toyama prefecture but moved to tokyo 8 years ago.
