Tiered Differentiation Plan to Support Diverse Students with Disabilities in Inclusive Environments

You will review a classroom dataset that provides a profile of a diverse general education classroom. This profile includes demographics of students in the classroom, as well as information on their academic, behavioral, and social-emotional characteristics. Based on this profile, you will develop a tiered differentiation plan to support the diverse learners in this classroom environment.

Part One: Analysis of Classroom Dataset

You will review the profile of the classroom and identify the assets and strengths of diverse students in this classroom profile. You will also review the profile of the classroom and identify the intervention needs of diverse students in the classroom profile. Pay close attention to the students who may need academic, behavioral, or social-emotional supports in the classroom.

Part Two: Tiered Differentiation Recommendations

Based on the assets and strengths, as well as needs, you identified in the classroom profile, you will make recommendations for instruction and intervention at each tier related to academic and behavioral/social-emotional systems in the classroom environment. These might include curricular recommendations or differentiation supports at Tier 1, small group supports for diverse learners at Tier 2, or individualized intervention for students with or without disabilities at Tier 2. Be sure to be specific about your recommendations and connect them to research-supported practices you learned in the class materials. Additionally, you will make recommendations for how those supports would be implemented in the classroom environment (e.g., using technology, in small group, during independent work time, etc.).

Part Three: Considerations for Enhancing Inclusive Differentiation Practices

Finally, you will reflect on other variables to enhance your differentiation plan for diverse students in the classroom profile. You will reflect on methods for integrating culturally responsive practices within your tiered differentiation framework and strategies for centering students as you develop your differentiation plan – how will you work with students to ensure that you are thinking about their perspective in your differentiation? You will also think about collaborative techniques with other educational professionals and parents and families to support your tiered differentiation plan. And, finally, you will think about how you will evaluate the effectiveness of your recommended practices – what will you watch for to ensure your techniques are working?
