To what extent do Stalin’s deportations of ethnic minorities align with the criteria for genocide under the UN Genocide Convention, and how might broader theories of genocide deepen our understanding of these actions?

Students will be required to write a twenty [20] page, typed and
double-spaced paper (Times Roman 12point font) on a topic of interest to them, in a region
of preference, but related to the themes of the seminar, and based on primary and/or
secondary sources that the student has identified. The paper should be properly
documented through appropriate citations of sources. Final submission of the research
paper will be preceded by the preparation of an eight to ten [8-10] page proposal on the
topic of the research paper, discussed with and approved by the professor.

All written work should demonstrate excellent grasp of the subject matter of
the seminar, which will also indicate a graduate-level understanding of some of the classical
literature, debates, and new trends in the fields of human rights and genocide studies. Graduate
work should reflect critical and balanced analysis of information and demonstrate ability to
communicate very good information in clear and coherent language.

Please while you writing a paper cite the literature by Martin shaw “what is genocide”
and by writer Edwart Kissi specialist on genocide works.
