The question asks you to assess ‘to what extent’ this was a period of conflict, so you may want to consider if co-operation and co-existence were also present in the period and then come up with a balanced judgement about the extent of conflict. There is no right or wrong answer to the question, and you will be marked on your ability to build an argument and select from the module materials examples that support it, as well as on your focus on the question throughout the essay.
Make sure you use primary sources to back up your argument.
You will need to consider the nature and extent of the conflict you are examining, and who was affected by it. Did different individuals or communities experience it in the same way? Were there clear consequences? Depending on the conflict you choose to discuss, you may select examples from specific geographical areas; this is fine but try and integrate your specific examples within the broader frame of early modern Europe. It may also be useful to consider if the conflict you are examining changed over time
