Task
This task
has two parts.
Part A –
Oral presentation
1.
Read the following case study about the
international business operations of Alin Food Products Ltd, a Bangladeshi food
manufacturing company exporting to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) and other
Middle Eastern countries. The case study provides an insight into the food
processing industry of Bangladesh, the demand by expatriates and other segments
for processed food, and the various entry strategies, tariffs, and importance
of free trading Zones in the Middle Eastern market.
Read
Zaman, MH,
Jaber, A, Zaman, S & Evan, MAM 2022, Food, expatriates, and the Middle
East: The case of Alin Food Products Ltd, London, available from Sage Sage
Business Cases.(Attached)
2.
Prepare a 7-minute oral presentation in which
you critically evaluate the international business operations of the Alin food
manufacturing company from Bangladesh in the Middle East as described in the
case study by Zaman et al. (2022). Based on your reading and understanding of
the case (written in 2022), address the following points in your oral
presentation with clear and evidence-based explanations and justifications:
·
Which country in the Middle East, as discussed
in the case study, provides Alin with the most and the least feasible
environment for engaging in international trade?
·
Critically evaluate the implicit and indirect
role that ‘Wasta’ may have played in influencing Alin’s international business
operations in the Middle East.
·
In your view, should Alin continue business in
Saudi Arabia? If not, how can it compensate for the revenue that it may
potentially lose?
·
Reflect on what you have learned about IB
theories, frameworks and concepts from examining this case study. Here, you do
not need to analyse the theories, frameworks or concepts themselves. Instead,
explain which IB theories, frameworks or concepts you see are relevant, why,
and what you learned about them after having examined the case of Alin Food
Products Ltd. in the Middle East market.
Part B –
Extended abstract
Write a
1,500-word extended abstract for the executive leadership team of your
organisation (or one that you are familiar with) comparing international
business strategies and recommending an appropriate foreign entry mode to three
foreign markets it is considering for investment in the Middle East region.
Your extended abstract must address these points:
·
Using Bartlett and Ghoshal’s (1989) typology of
IB strategy, provide a comparative evaluation of global strategies for the
markets of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the UAE for your organisation (or an
organisation that you are familiar with).(Please check module 6)
·
Recommend an appropriate foreign market entry
mode (e.g., exporting, piggybacking, countertrade, foreign production etc.) for
the organisation’s operations in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the UAE.
Important: Your extended abstract document is
intended to provide your executive leadership team with a concise but
evidence-based comparison of the current risks and opportunities presented by
the alternative IB strategic options, as well as a clear justification for the
recommended entry mode/s in lieu of a longer and more extensive report. As your
comparison must be current, you will need to use at least 4 credible sources
published within the last two years, i.e. not before 2022.
The
organization or company should be new to the Middle East for part B
