You will be required to complete a research paper and present.
The research paper and presentation are worth 18% towards
your final grade. For evaluation purposes, the paper presentation
will be considered with class paper turned it online.
The research paper should follow the guidelines below:
Cover page
– Include paper title (topic), your name, date, and class name

(must be approved by the instructor)

– What is your hypothesis(es)?
3. Literature Review
(- What theories have been developed or applied regarding to the
topic?)
– What research has been done about the topic?
– What are the research data / methods / results?
– Are those findings consistent or inconsistent?
– Are there any mistakes in the studies and the theoretical
reasoning?
4. Methodology (If study has any)
Research question or hypothesis

variables)
+ Conceptualization and Operationalization
+ Level / Unit of measurement
5. Analytical procedure and findings

6. Discussion
Summarize and discuss your findings and compare and contrast
with previous studies. Also include limitations and policy
implications.

– APA style: Use a least 7 references (i.e., from
https://scholar.google.com/citations?view_op=top_venues&hl=en
&vq=soc_criminologycriminallawpolicing). Do not use Wikipedia
or other non scholarly sources as a reference.
Paper Format
• Papers must be between 6-12 pages (this excludes cover page
and references section)
• Typed in Microsoft Word
• Double spaced with no spaces between paragraphs
• Font requirements: Times New Roman, 12-point font, black font
• APA 7th edition format must be used
o Citing sources is also judged on relevance, not citation for
citation sake.
o Minimum of 7 sources
• Government reports, research institute reports, organizational
reports, peer-reviewed academic journal articles (no book
reviews, editorials, commentaries, etc.), and academic books are
all acceptable source types
• Technical writing: proper syntax, grammar, punctuation,
spelling, organization, structure, etc. is expected.
o Use Grammarly, spelling/grammar check in MS Word, and edit
