Paper: Using psychology to help you study and the influence of sleep on study and
exam performance
Directions:
- Critically engage with your study and sleep habits
- Utilize the PowerPoint and the textbook to answer the questions
- Utilize Chapters 1 (how to be a better student section) and Chapter 2 (sleep section)
- Answer all the questions, 1-8, in full sentences.
- Papers should include 1) a clear introduction that presents the topic (no more than one paragraph); 2) body organized around the 8 questions and 3) conclusion
- that succinctly summarizes the paper (no more than one paragraph).
Questions:
- How do you study for exams now?
- Does it depend on the class that you are studying for?
- Does it depend on the type of exam (multiple choice, essay…)
- Does it depend on your interest in the class? If it is in your major area?
- Who taught you to study this way or where did you learn how to study this way?
- Do you believe that your current way of studying is effective? Why or why not?
- Use information only from the Myers textbook (for example, using the time management section in the beginning of the book) or the power point from class to write a paragraph (at least 4 sentences with at least 3 examples) on how you, with your habits and lifestyle, can specifically improve your study skills.
- Review your sleep logs and write a few sentences about any patterns that you noticed (for example, patterns related to days when you slept the best and why, when were you the most fatigued, was there a difference between weekend and weekday sleep and more…). Identify a minimum of 2 patterns.
- According to your sleep logs, at what time of the day is your performance most efficient?

- Using the textbook, what can you do to improve your sleep patterns? Name at least 3 things that are specific to your patterns of sleep.
- How do you think your sleep schedule impacts your study habits and performance on exams?
