12 point left justified double spaced with one inch margins. Must use 3 primary sources. One source must be
Eric Foner, Give Me Liberty! An American History, Fourth Seagull Edition (New York: W.W. Norton & Company, 2010), page number. Below I have listed the exact instructions from class. Also here is a video from the class that can be used as the video source. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tEL45w0rwqk&t=1s
- Discuss and cite at least three assigned primary sources, one assigned film, and information from Foner, Give Me Liberty! You should have enough sources from the class material to write your paper. You can use sources that were not assigned for this class, but be sure they are reputable sources. Outside sources will not count towards the source requirements.
- You should both paraphrase and employ short, relevant quotations from the sources you use. Cite your sources using whichever format you prefer (MLA, APA, Chicago/Turabian) Cite documents and chapters by author and title.
- Your paper should have an introduction with a clear, effective thesis statement. The thesis statement should not be a basic historical fact (e.g., The United States restricted immigration in 1924) but should instead make a contestable (one could argue for or against it), interpretive statement that offers a specific but comprehensive argument
- Body paragraphs should include clear, effective topic sentences that build your argument. An effective topic sentences does not state an uncontested historical fact (e.g. The American stock market crashed in 1929) but instead expresses an interpretive point (e.g., The Great Depression led to the incorporation of Americans’ growing economic expectations into the architecture of American citizenship).
