Week 2 Assignment – Title Page, Introduction, and Literature Review and Appraisal

Week 2 Assignment – Title Page, Introduction, and Literature Review and Appraisal

Weekly Objectives 1, 2, and 3 will be addressed in this assignment.

Document: EBP Project Template

Each group will submit the EBP Project Proposal Paper Template with the Title page.

Introduction:

The submission should also include a 2 to 4-page introduction including the following subheadings:

  • Purpose
  • Relevance/significance
  • Potential outcomes
  • Clinical question (in either the PICO or PICOT format)

Literature Review and Appraisal:

As a group, you must complete both a narrative summary and an evidence table that includes a minimum of eight sources representing the best available evidence on the topic. These should be a reflection of the individual searches completed in Week 1. You should include all references cited in the table format using APA. You are expected to search for the best available evidence and critically appraise the evidence. Tools to appraise the evidence include RAPID, RAPid, AGREE, CASP, and NOTARI.

It is recommended that you use either the JBI Hierarchy of Evidence or Melnyk’s of evidence (as noted in the “Steps” series) to rank your evidence.

You should develop both an evidence table (see EBP Project Proposal Paper Template) and a narrative synthesis. You need to write a very clear, descriptive, and in-depth narrative synthesis (4-8 pages) of evidence that reveals the current state of knowledge on the topic [see sample integrative reviews in the lib guides: Hewitt (2010) and Larret (2009) papers]. Include in the narrative the following:

  • Description of common themes found in the literature/sources
  • Identification of consistencies and contradictions in the literature/sources
  • Identification of gaps in the existing body of knowledge

Please review the readings, sample paper (in Course Resources), and grading rubric for guidance. Use the EBP Project Proposal Paper Template and insert the week’s writing requirements. Submit the paper in its entirety with each week’s assignment.

Criteria to address:

  • Section Introduction: PICO(T), keywords, and a minimum of three relevant databases searched
  • An evidence table that includes a minimum of 8 sources of evidence
  • Narrative Synthesis
  • Update References

Note:

  • Please review the sample papers in the Resource section. Please note that the sample paper does not completely follow all the current criteria.
  • Begin in Section One. Do not start in the Abstract section. An abstract cannot be completed until all sections are written.
  • You should begin to submit to the appropriate draft areas in Turnitin. (See below). Please review the attached Turnitin Student Guide for more information about Turnitin and how to read the Turnitin report. You must achieve a “similarity” score of 15% or less for your final submission to Turnitin FINAL in week 5. Your percentage may be higher in the drafts for all weeks because it captures the template and references. The more original work you add, the score show decrease. These drafts are for your individual feedback. Remember to include your work on the template.
  • Remember to submit your assignment to the assignment dropbox.
