What are some
limitations of using artificial intelligence like ChatGPT? What impact might
this have on education? On society? ChatGPT’s main limitations include some
occasional inaccuracies, a lack of genuine comprehension, and the potential for
privacy risks. In education, while AI can support learning, it may lead to
over-reliance if not carefully integrated. Societally, unchecked AI could
automate tasks at the cost of jobs and might unintentionally perpetuate social
inequalities due to built-in biases.
Why do some social scientists think that artificial
intelligence (AI) is prone to systemic racism and social bias? Social
scientists point out that AI can reflect systemic bias because it learns from
historical data that may already contain these biases. Additionally, AI design
decisions and lack of diversity among developers can reinforce unintended
prejudices, impacting areas like criminal justice and hiring practices.
If you were responsible for writing a classroom policy on
the use of ChatGPT for classroom assignments, what are some considerations that
you would include to ensure that AI is used ethically and to promote
learning? My classroom policy would ideally guide ethical and educational
use by encouraging students to use ChatGPT for brainstorming and fact-checking
rather than completing assignments independently. Emphasize academic integrity
by requiring disclosure of AI use and encourage students to think critically
about AI outputs, understanding its limitations and potential biases.
