Use the link associated with this assignment to turn in your completed Brief Report in it’s final draft form. Here is a specific description of the requirements of the paper:
Complete a 4-5 page brief report that addresses an area of research in Abnormal Psychology, reflecting current research-supported understanding of the topic chosen. A brief report (also called a “white paper”) is a form of report typically used either to report on new findings, or as a brief on the current state of research in an area. Please clear your topic with the instructor to insure it meets the requirements for the class. The paper will be in 12 pt. font size, and APA format. There is no need for a title page due to the length of the paper. Students are expected to submit their own, original writing (i.e. no “A.I.” generated papers), although some quoted statements may be included if properly cited (please see syllabus for details on acceptable use of AI for this course. As this is a 300-Level course, papers should reflect levels of analysis, interpretation of data, and writing style that are commensurate with that range of writing. STUDENTS ARE STRONGLY ENCOURAGED TO DO A “FINAL PROOFREADING” OF THEIR PAPER TO REDUCE ERRORS AND MAJOR ISSUES. Please consult the rubric for this assignment to understand key points in paper grading. SEE RUBRIC BELOW:
Try to avoid something you may have been taught in other writing or English classes, the Broad Opening sentence. Instead, jump right into the subject as if your reader is aware of the topic. (What you should avoid are sentences like “Mood disorders have been studied since ancient history” and “The world is changing at an ever increasing pace, and so is ….” Leave this sentence out.
> One way to start might be to quote a statistic about the topic, another might be to discuss a recent news article on the topic. You can also just start with your basic question you’ll be answering.
Always write in the 3rd person in Psych papers like this “This author” “This Writer” and stay away from “I”.
