* Support your idea with facts, details, examples, etc. Cite your sources using MLA.
* Include a counterargument — This can be part of Body Paragraph 1 OR it can be a new paragraph. YOU DECIDE (EXAMPLE: Is there some speech that people believe should not be allowed? Why do they believe this?)
* Include a concession (EXAMPLE: Can you see why they believe that this type of speech should not be allowed?)
* Include a refutation (Why is their argument wrong, or why is your argument better?)
Body Paragraph 2 (Cause/effect paragraph — This can be 1 or 2 paragraphs. You decide): Explain at least one reason why you believe a government might become oppressive and fail to protect or fulfill the purpose that you introduced.

*
Body Paragraph 3 (compare/contrast): Compare the US government (the system, not a political leader) to another country’s government. Choose ONE purpose:

* Show how the US system is similar to a very different type of government at protecting or fulfilling the purpose you introduced.
* Or show how the US system is different from a very similar type of government at protecting or fulfilling the purpose you introduced.
* Topic sentence (EXAMPLE): Although the United States is not perfect at protecting free speech, it does a much better job than North Korea.
