What does the opportunity for higher education mean to you and what will you do with it?

Mention how my mother, who is a veteran of the United States Army who served 22 years, never had the opportunity to go to college to pursue her undergraduate studies, but she did everything she could to put me in the best schools to have an opportunity she couldn’t. She migrated from Mexico and had scholarships to go to school. Still, her calling was to serve following 9/11, so she served, and I want to follow in her footsteps but serve as an officer as I’m currently enrolled in the ROTC program here at the University of Louisville. Every time I go to class, I have to apply myself just a bit more because I have a stigma of being a minority in higher education, and my overall goal is to make my mother proud and be the first one to graduate in my family, being a first-generation student. I will take the opportunity my mom handed me and do the best I can with it as I major in biology in pursuit of becoming a dentist. Not many people get to attend college. Still, my goal is to do this for my mother so I can give her my diploma because although I put in the academic work, she did the grunt work to raise me and discipline me to who I am today, so he deserves it more than I do. I will not take my opportunity for granted.
