What impacts have various national crime commissions, i.e.,
the Church Commission, Wickersham Commission, and 9/11 Commission, had on law
enforcement intelligence activities in the United States?
There are some
things you might want to think about for your answer:
· Why were the committees formed? What was going on?
· What are some specific examples of problems found by these
commissions?
· What recommendations were made, and were they implemented?
· Were the recommendations just advice, or were laws and
regulations created?
· Did things change? Do police intelligence units operate
differently now than at times in the past?
·
It’s been over 15
years since the 9/11 Commission Report was released. Do we need to take another
look at how law enforcement intelligence units conduct business? Why?
Make sure you
support your position with evidence. The required readings for the class are a
good place to start. You will also need to do some Internet and/or Cline
Library research. What are researchers saying about this issue? As always,
provide citations and references for the information you use so we may refer to
it.
Note: citation for direct quote must include the last
name of the author, year of publication, and the page number from which the
quote was obtained, it will look like this (Grana, 2021, page 20)
