If you choose to answer it in a certain way which you believe is a reasonable approach put your argument for your approach in the introduction. The introduction is also the place where you may explain what you will and will not cover. You will probably want to write or re-write the introduction towards the end of your essay writing process.
The word limit is 2,000 words plus or minus ten per cent. The word limit applies to the main body of the essay and does not include the reference list or and appendices that you may wish to add. Appendices are only likely to be glanced at briefly by the marker. You are advised to write several drafts in order to achieve a concise and well-written final product.
You are asked to adopt a recognised system for references and citations of authors. The course tutor has a preference for the system used in the course materials with author surnames, dates and page numbers inserted in the text and a list of references at the end. All quotations must be attributed and placed in quotation marks. The use of extensive quotation is discouraged. In particular it is not a good idea to take refuge in providing a quote for something you donβt understand. A key purpose of your essay is to demonstrate to the tutor that you understand the concepts you are discussing.
Credit will be given for clarity of exposition. Any diagrams used should be carefully labelled and fully explained in the text.
