- Confrontation and Resistance:
- March for Our Lives (US): While the March for Our Lives was primarily peaceful, there were moments of confrontation, particularly in the form of impassioned speeches and direct challenges to political leaders. The bodily performances of defiance and determination underscored the protesters’ refusal to accept the status quo regarding gun control.
- Tiananmen Square Protests (China): In Tiananmen Square, bodily performances of resistance were met with violent suppression by the Chinese government. The iconic image of the “Tank Man,” standing in front of a line of tanks, exemplifies the courage and defiance of individuals facing overwhelming force. Despite the risk of harm, protesters used their bodies to symbolize resistance against authoritarian rule.
