In this discussion, you will analyze how technology, politics, economics, and institutions shaped the history of SATCOM development and assess the relative importance of these forces in the rise and fall of Iridium. Excellent responses will go beyond historical facts (the what) and historical analyses (the how) to get to causal analyses (the why). Understanding these underlying factors will provide you with the tools to look to the future and observe the development of underlying trends that will shape the future. No one can predict the future, but using these concepts will give you a basis for looking ahead rather than behind. In this discussion, you should, at a minimum, include the following:
Discuss each of the underlying forces as they relate to the development and collapse of Iridium.
Discuss which of these forces was most important and why you made that determination.
After you have posted to the discussion, read and respond to at least two of your classmates’ postings and any comments by your instructor with constructive commentary. Your responses to your classmates should be thought-provoking and continue the conversation.
Articulate a position on the prompts or questions supported with data and evidence.
Provide multiple facts supporting your position.
Comment/critique the position of at least two other students using supporting data and evidence.
Your initial post should be a minimum of two (2) paragraphs.
Respond to at least two (2) of your classmates’ posts. Participation grades are assessed based on the exchange of ideas in the discussion forums thoughtfully and substantively, reflecting preparation and analysis.
