Why and how the U.S. Government Promoted Western Migration while fighting the civil war.

The American Civil War was between the Union and the
Confederacy in the United States. It was formed in 1861 by the states that seceded
from the Union.

During the Civil War, the United States government actively
promoted Western migration through legislation that provided the white settlers
in the West with a parcel of 160 acres for only a nominal filing fee, which
they were required to improve the land within five years of taking possession this
was to aim solidity the union to control over new territories and boost land
development to improve economic development through agriculture and land trade.

 This was to prevent the
expansion of slavery into the regions and territories and to try to populate
the region with settlers as opposed to slavery.
