Chapter 1 ,freedom on my mind, Third Edition ( African History)

Chapter 1, (African Origins, Beginnings – 1600 CE), discusses the overwhelming diversity of early African societies, and
their contributions to ancient and early modern history. The text begins here for a very specific reason.
“Why is it important to study African history in an African-American history context?”
(To put it another way: this course explicitly studies African American history. Why do you think our course begins with studying African history?)
Using examples from chapter 1, explain why you think this is. (Ask yourself: What did I think about the importance of African history before I read the chapter? Did my opinion change after reading it?)
