Short Paper (25%): The purpose of the short paper is for you to consider a course topic/ idea in more depth, based on library research. Choose one question/statement from the list below. Write a 2-3 page (double spaced) paper that addresses the question/statement. Reference at least four current (published within the past 5 years) scholarly, peer reviewed articles, found through the York library/OMNI system. They should inform your understanding of the topic, support your development of a central 2 argument and discussion. DO NOT use websites as sources of information for this paper. NOTE: a book review is not peer reviewed, nor is an editorial. The paper will be graded based on the short paper criteria (available in the eClass), including: readability (grammar, punctuation, spelling, and referencing style); the quality of your thesis; the quality of the support for your arguments; adherence to guidelines, and your ability to demonstrate an understanding of course concepts. This paper must be formatted and referenced in APA 7th edition style; however it doesn’t require an abstract. If you are not familiar with this style, consult the APA website (style and grammar guidelines) or the Owl Purdue education website for details. Reminders: – Begin by looking up terms and concepts in the textbook glossary – Submit your paper through Turnitin1 before the due date (you will be able to resubmit) to view the similarity report – Always reference ideas that are not considered “common knowledge”. – Do not use material from websites, a dictionary, or an encyclopedia. – Do not quote the lectures. This material comes from other source material–look for the original whenever possible. – Do not use artificial intelligence software when researching or writing this paper Policy on Late Papers The short paper can be submitted anytime up until 11:59pm on the due date without penalty. As it can be “handed in” by this method 24/7, this means that every day, including weekends, counts toward late submission deductions. Late papers will be deducted by 1.5% per day unless there is an outstanding medical reason for the late submission.
