WEEKLY JOURNALS ASSIGNMENT – 1 Point each toward Final Grade
Write Submission or Attach MS Word or PDF File only!
Write 1 page for the current Module, which is approximately 470-500 total words per journal entry in single-spaced paragraphs using Font size 12 in Arial or Times New Roman. An average single spaced page in 12 font is 470-500 words. You should have 10 journal entries by the end of the semester.
Your journals should reflect what you are learning from each Module class session and may include reflections, reactions and thoughts about what you are learning from the textbook chapters, exercises, discussions, videos, and assignments for that lesson/week.
DO NOT SUMMARIZE WHAT WE DO IN THE LESSON. Each Journal Entry is a Reaction and Reflection on what you are learning in class and how your are using it in your everyday lives– personally and professional as you grow in understanding about Interpersonal Communication.
I will be grading on content quantity and your spelling, grammar, etc. I want to know your true and honest thoughts on what you are learning and how you are applying it to your lives.
JOURNAL 5- POSSIBLE QUESTIONS TO ASK YOURSELF and ANSWER IN THE JOURNAL ENTRY
1. How important is Nonverbal Communication? What things do I need to work on to improve my own Nonverbal communication skills? How comfortable are you in an interview for a job, in any situation? How can you become more confident to be able to interview well with anyone, in any situation? Why is that important to be able to do that?
2. What did you think about the comments that former FBI Agent Joe Navarro gave in his Ted Talk, The Power of Nonverbal Communication? What points stuck out to you in what he said?
3. What did you think about the Nonverbal communication exhibited by the characters in the clip from Crazy, Stupid Love? What are your thoughts on their nonverbal messaging in the flirtatious situation in the bar? What nonverbal cues stuck out to you in what they said or did?
4. From Chapter 5 in the textbook, which Key Terms or concepts stood out as you become more familiar on the importance of Nonverbal Communication? Which key terms can you relate to and how? What examples from your life can you give us about some of them? Write about those examples.
5. What do you think about the statistic that 90% to 93% of our communication is Nonverbal? What does that say about nonverbal messages in our lives?
6. What do you think about the 5.3 Discussion What Colors Mean article? Which points stuck out to you most as you read them? Why?
7. What do you think about the 5.4 Discussion – List of Nonverbal Skills? Which stood out to you as you read them? Why?
8. What is your continuing reaction to the 2.5 Extra Credit Assignment – Self Improvement project in which you can choose 5 Positive Things to do on a daily basis and implement them into your life? You will earn 1 Extra Credit Point for each day you do it. (Maximum 10 points) My hope is that you will try it for at least 1 Day. If you enjoy it, continue to do it. Before you know it, by putting positive habits and actions into your life– positive things will be the outcome. If you activate positivity in your life, the results will be positive. Conversely, if you participate in negative habits and actions– the results most likely will also be negative, not positive. That’s a truism.
