What purpose do ALL these LAWS we live with serve? Speeding, registering your dog with the town, planning and killing someone can land you in prison, paying a tax to the state of Connecticut for almost every item you buy. These are all the work of duly elected legislatures writing laws, chief executives enforcing these laws, and courts interpreting them. Laws explain to society what is prohibited, how they should be enforced, what rights people have when dealing with others and government, and the punishment when laws are broken. There are two categories of law criminal and civil laws. All laws have the social purpose of controlling and changing societies.
In this assignment you will be a LEGISLATURE and you will write a new law.
Your law should be original. Think about topics that interest you and research what laws already exist that regulate your topic. Your law can prohibit specific acts and intents, it can grant rights to citizens, or it can outline what should happen in certain situations faced by people in society, you decide. Your law can address any issue in our culture.
