Write an essay of 5,000 words. Identify and consider the weaknesses and failures of the Metropolitan Police’s investigation into the murder of Stephen Lawrence in 1993. Using knowledge from this module, consider how both the Initial and Main Investigative phases were affected by poor investigative practice and suggest several key changes to the investigative policy that would have been of significant benefit to the investigation. Students will need to show a detailed knowledge of the circumstances of the murder, the subsequent investigation and criticisms made of the Metropolitan Police’s response.
