Students will conduct an interview with a criminal justice professional. This individual needs to be currently working in the field of law enforcement, courts (or court support), or corrections (including probation and parole) and may be employed at either the local, state, or Federal level. Develop and ask questions regarding ethics and corruption. Include but do not limit your questions to the following:
-
- Does your agency require an ethics class or training?
- What is your agency’s procedure for reporting suspected ethical violations?
- What are the most common ethical issues people face in your career field?
- Tell me about a time you faced an ethical issue and how you addressed/resolved the issue.
Write a brief summary of the interview and then answer the following questions using Microsoft Word. Do not restate the questions. Write in paragraph form, not bulleted format. The total assignment needs to be a minimum of 850 words. Use 10–12-point Arial, Calibri, or Times New Roman font. OR – you may record and upload the interview to Canvas rather than write a brief summary of the interview. Still answer the following questions.
Professional criminal justice agencies (which most are) will have no tolerance for corruption and move swiftly to stop this behavior. After interviewing the professional you selected, what standards and practices have you studied that were mentioned or may be missed by the individual or organization? Are you convinced the agency has the correct policies, procedures, and training in place to address corruption? Did this exercise change your perception of the criminal justice system in a positive or negative way? Explain.
