Write two complete typed pages (MLA format) on what you learned this semester in our English class.

Write two complete typed pages (MLA format) on what you learned this semester in our English class. It can go over but cannot be under the minimum without a major deduction. Please note that this is not a formal essay assignment. Your essay does not need to have a thesis or PIE paragraphs. BUT IT NEEDS TO HAVE SOME PARAGRAPH ORGANIZATION. Think about how to organize what you learned into categories and make those categories into paragraphs. A good way to brainstorm or remind yourself what you learned would be to review the Canvas modules. The final should not be a 2+ page SINGLE paragraph. The final will be graded on the following features: Thoughtfulness and thoroughness Content Sentence maturity Proofreading skill MLA format, including spacing throughout, heading, and header (page numbers) Read your Final Exam OUT LOUD to make sure everything sounds right. Remember reading your own work out loud is the best revision technique there is because we have an internal sense for how the language SOUNDS, so that if it does not sound right to you, you can go in and make it as good as you can. Revise, edit, PROOFREAD, make it the best you can…. In this english class, we learned about : 1. Using Quotations Lesson WITH PATTERNS 2. Draw into your post your newfound knowledge of what history in the United States entails, but do not just repeat what Chomsky or Loewen say. However, you should use some quotations to support your points. Be sure to draw into your post the ideological underpinnings of “heroification” from Loewen’s chapter and also bring in what Chomsky says about history as well. To do well on this post you will need to use some critical thinking to decipher what is IDEOLOGICAL about heroification. Remember in order for there to be an ideology, there has to be a group of people behind it pushing the ideology (like “pushing” a drug). Answer the question of WHO benefits from heroification. 3.discussion response making connections between the conquest and genocide of the Native Americans, colonialism, human progress and the number 3 essay theme from the essay prompt on colonialism and neocolonialism. You cannot get a clearer explanation of old style European colonialism versus the new American neocolonialism than from how Howard Zinn explains the difference in his video. WHAT IS NEOCOLONIALISM? Be sure to bring that out in your response. What role does manifest destiny and “Providence” (Zinn video) play in these forces, and how does this religious ideology continue to this day? Where do you see it in evidence now? How do we reconcile the principle of the “separation of church and state” into the role that Providence plays in the 21st century political landscape? Spoiler alert! At the end of the Zinn video he gives a new vision of what American could be. Very inspirational!! 4. discussion response connecting slavery to how we view “race” today. How do Robinson’s points about how this country was founded on white supremacy, and his claim that “our history has been stolen from us” relate to the present. And how does it was done intentionally and purposefully” (and other points he makes in this brilliant and riveting presentation) relate to Loewen’s “Gone with the Wind” and/or Zinn’s “Slavery Without Submission.” (making connections!) 5. discussion response making a comparison of John Brown and Abraham Lincoln. What role does heroification play in our perception of the two historical figures? Who in your estimation is the true hero? Support your selection with logic and quotes from Loewen and/or Zinn. Was Lincoln a racist or an egalitarian? What was the real reason for the Civil War? Can you define “ideological insanity”? Some things to ponder as you write your discussion post. Be sure to use the text for support. 6. discussion response discussing at length why people are poor in the United States. Do not oversimplify. For example, why has poverty been so intrenched in the United States since its inception? Is that just an accident of fate or is there a reason for this? Use some critical thinking to delve into the issue. And answer the question do we live in a racial caste society? Of course you would have to know what that is, so define it in your post. Be sure to use ample support from the readings, especially Michael Parenti, who has some very good insights on this issue. 7. discussion response making connections between Chomsky’s and Stiglitz’ views on globalization. Use some quotations from the reading to support your points. How does Stiglitz contradict himself various times in his essay, and how does Chomksy make his contradictions all the more apparent in his speech? I am looking for quotations from Stiglitz’ essay where it is apparent that he is taking two opposing sides on an issue. You could draw into your post the alphabet soup of “international” organizations (controlled by the U.S.) — WB, IMF, WTO. What ideology is behind their actions? This is an opportunity to read an essay utilizing critical thinking to assess the validity of an argument. Be sure to bring out quotations from both authors to help back up your points ESPECIALLY YOUR POINTS ABOUT HOW STIGLITZ CONTRADICTS HIMSELF.

discussion post making connections between the two readings, and the video. What role does FEAR play in the creation of empire or the creation of a cult mentality that allows people to believe the most outlandish things (Trump)? How is FEAR used for social control? Are we being manipulated right now by someone using the FEAR technique? Who? Where? How? I AM LOOKING FOR CONCRETE, SPECIFIC EXAMPLES FROM THE PRESENT. Use the readings and video to support your points. Also draw into your post Chomsky’s point about how the extreme right is able to follow outlandish conspiracy claims by “suspending disbelief” — a concept that is customarily applied to fantasy stories or literature.  And how does this relate to the above terms?
