Question 1
Purpose of Question #1-> Careers, job postings, and KSAs
Now that you have some idea of what it is you will need to know and what you must be able to do (in regard to KSAs) for the two particular career choices selected (c.f. WA#1), it is time to see what job listings advertise.
- Start here: Visit a website that lists job openings and seek an advertisement for the type of job or occupational title you indicated you would like to pursue as part of your career plan.
For this part of the assignment, you may use any number of websites, including the American Psychological Association’s site (Find Psychology Jobs with APA psycCareers) at https://www.psyccareers.com/Links to an external site. or http://www.psyccareers.com/jobs/Links to an external site., Monster.com at https://www.monster.com/Links to an external site., or Career builder at https://www.careerbuilder.com/Links to an external site., or Indeed at https://www.indeed.com/Links to an external site. , or Glassdoor (https://www.glassdoor.com/Links to an external site. ) or Ziprecruiter (https://www.ziprecruiter.com/Links to an external site.) to name just a few.
- First career option considered:
- Q1a: Career title stated. Write a brief description of the job’s duties/responsibilities. Do not “copy and paste,” extract what you consider core to the job posted, in light of KSAs and your personal interests.
- Q1b: Next, establish a brief compare/contrast (table format): Write a brief summary comparing how the information contained within this job posting, such as the required KSAs, qualifications and duties/responsibilities, educational requirements and experience, relates to the information provided on the Career One Stop website.
- Q1c: Finally, include website visited, the relevant webs-link, a copy of the job posting for the particular career choice selected; if the job posting is too lengthy, include instead the aspects you consider the most significant.
- Second career option considered.
- Q1d: Career title stated. Write a brief description of the job’s duties/responsibilities. Do not “copy and paste,” extract what you consider core to the job posted, in light of KSAs and your personal interests.

- Q1f Finally, include a copy of the job posting (one for each of the two particular career choices selected); if the job posting is too lengthy, include instead the job posting web link.
Question 2
Purpose of Question #2-> Identify the resources available to you to help you acquire the knowledge, skills, and abilities to pursue your career choice(s).
The resources available to you can be divided into three main categories:
- (R1) Curricular Activities = Courses (past, present and future), including psychology and neuroscience (check the BA and BS requirement sheet) and other courses (make use of the Bulletin https://www.ius.edu/advising/bulletin.phpLinks to an external site. and take in consideration the Faculty’s perspective/opinion and the APA site information). Be strategic and career-minded!
- (R2) Extra-curricular Activities = Supplementary campus activities at IUS outside of classes (research with a faculty member, involvement in student organizations, utilizing IUS offices such as the Writing Center, Career Development Center, Library, Math lab, and others, and any other activity on campus).
- (R3) External Activities = Off-campus activities (internship, employment, volunteer activities, etc.).
Report: For each of the four main categories (communication, interpersonal, critical thinking and ability to learn) of KSA’s desired by employers, write a summary of how you have and/or will acquire those important skills through each of the three types of resources described above. Be clear and give specific examples (think in terms of “behavioral interviewing” https://www.ius.edu/career/interviewing/sample-behavioral-questions.phpLinks to an external site.).
Be sure to strictly follow the structure/format spelled out in the rubric: Q2a = Communication Skills associated with R1, R2, R3; Q2b=Interpersonal Skills associated with R1, R2, R3; Q2c=Critical-Thinking Skills associated with R1, R2, R3; Q2d=Ability-to-Learn Skills associated with R1, R2, R3.
NOTE: Please you must compose your Written Assignment strictly and explicitly (question 1a, question 1b, question 1c, etc…) following the format displayed in the rubric. When you’re applying for a job or grad spot, if something (information) is not where it is supposed to be included/reported, employers and grad admission programs will not extend the courtesy to search for it in your application and consequently your application might be dismissed because it is considered incomplete and thus not meeting the content requirement.
