Assignment #1: Written Engagement with Guest Presentations with Summaries Linked to Self and Leadership Knowledge

 -Students will select one of the guest presentations and demonstrate their ability to deepen their knowledge of the presentation topic, relate the topic to previous learning, and integrate relevant literature from the nursing discipline. Headings are required throughout paper.


-Feedback on student work: Common feedback will be given to all students. Instructors may provide individual feedback on the assignment that is outside the common feedback. There are 9 guest presentations. Students select which one of the 9 guest speakers they will complete the assignment on. Students must attend the presentations, including the presentation for which they submit a reflection, or have discussed any unique situations with the course lead. 


Assignment Description:

Each guest will speak to some aspect of nursing leadership. The written summary will involve focusing on one of the guest presentations. 

You must include a title page clearly indicating your chosen topic/guest/presentation date and word count, as well as the other elements of a title page in APA 7th edition format. The word limit for this assignment is 750 words.

A minimum of Recent 5 references are required:

  • A scientific journal article in the nursing discipline that relates to the topic discussed by the guest.

  • A scientific journal article that touches on the topic of leadership in the nursing discipline.

  • Your course textbook- 

    Waddell, J.I., & Walton, N.A. (2020). Yoder-Wise’s – Leading and managing in Canadian
    nursing. Elsevier.

  • And document from a professional nursing association; either CNA or CRNA.

The written engagement should include an introduction and conclusion, as well as answer these questions:

  1. What prior knowledge and experience do you bring to the topic/guest presentation? What concepts learned earlier in the program, particularly but not limited to leadership courses, relate to the topic of the day? How do these concepts relate to the topic of the day?

  2. How does the course material relate to the topic of the presentation? How does the information in the text relate to the knowledge you bring and the guest presentation? How do you plan to integrate this knowledge into your leadership fieldwork?

  3. What are the main points you took away from this guest’s presentation? What new information did the guest share that you will remember and use in your future professional nursing leadership experiences?

The use of APA 7th edition format is expected. The work must be submitted in Word format.
