Liesel emerged from the rubble of what once was her family’s home, her hands trembling as she brushed the dust from herself. The devastation was overwhelming. She moved through the ruins, her heart pounding with fear, until she found them. Her family, lying lifeless within the destruction. The sight stole the breath from her lungs, leaving her gasping for air as tears streamed down her cheeks.
Devastated and desperate for support, Liesel wanted to see the only person who could understand her at that moment, Rudy. He had always been her rock, her constant source of strength. She needed him now more than ever and with determination in her heart, she searched the streets until she found him.
Suddenly she spotted Rudy’s figure standing in the ruins. She hurried towards him, her steps stumbling with each painful memory that flooded her mind. When Rudy turned around at the sound of her approach, his expression was a mixture of concern and relief.
“Liesel” he breathed, reaching out to her. Liesel collapsed into his arms.
“I’m so sorry Liesel,” Rudy whispered, his voice trembling. “I can’t imagine…”
“I don’t know how to go on, Rudy. Everything… Everything is gone.” Rudy cupped her face in his hands and gently wiped the tears from her eyes.
